Keyboard language input NOT showing on Menu Bar

Hello,

I'm running the Monterey operating system, and despite the fact that I've followed to a T all the instructions on how to add a new language to my keyboard, it still doesn't appear on my Menu Bar. Even if I use the shortcut to switch between languages the function does not work. So this a two fold problem:

1) The flag for the language input option on the Menu Bar does not appear on my Menu Bar even if that box has been checked (see screen shot)

2) Despite the fact that the proper shortcuts are being used to select between languages when typing (whether on Safari or on texting from Mac), the language fonts do not change (see screen shot).

I've tried selecting & deselecting these options over and over again, doing all sorts of reseting according to others suggestions on this forum, etc... NOTHING works. I would like the new language to be functional on my Text Messaging app on Mac. I do not need the language function for google searches or anything else - just for texting from Mac. See the first picture for reference where I can select Romanian using a shortcut but no Romanian characters are enabled and the words are underlined in red as if they are unrecognizable.

Help.

Restarting your Mac should always be the first resort. Anyone trying to help you here assumes you have done that already.

Do try adding another keyboard or two. It is important to know whether your problem extends beyond Romanian and beyond just two keyboards.

Apple keyboards should work in all Apple apps. It is important to know whether Romanian also fails to produce ă â ț (but instead gives you [ ] \ )when you type those keys here in Safari, etc. or only in Message,

The problem with the flag menu is separate. You should be able to switch keyboards regardless of whether that is working or not.

When you type those red-circled keys, what do you get?

Same problem here in Safari, Mail, TextEdit, Pages?

Try adding another keyboard like French to your input sources and see if you can switch to that. It is easy to tell if it is working because French is azerty instead of qwerty.

Regarding spellcheck, etc., the keyboard doesn't play any role in that. Go to system preferences > keyboard > text > spelling and make sure it says Romanian (and not "automatic").

Regarding typing Romanian, are you saying that when you have chosen that keyboard, the special keys circled in the picture below do not produce what they should?

Thanks for the info.

Another thing to try: With your spellcheck set to Romanian, if you type "Buna dimineata" , does it indicate these words are misspelled?

Correct. When I choose the Romanian language as the input language (from the photo I showed above) the spelling doesn't switch to Romanian as it should. Nor does the language selection appear in my Menu Bar (the flags icon). I should be able to toggle between any language keyboards I select.

I only need to switch to Romanian for texting from my Mac. I can easily switch to the Romanian language keyboard for texting from my iPhone... easy peasy, but I want to be able to do the same while texting from the Mac since it's the same app and system. So I figured I needed to install the Romanian keyboard from System Preferences... and I did... but it just doesn't work when I text from the Mac.

Come think of it, it doesn't work even when I type in Google...

Just so I understand correctly what you mean though: those special characters would appear where I now have the accolades and the forward bar keys on my physical keyboard, yes? If so, when I use those 3 keys, it doesn't give me Romanian characters.

Also, why doesn't the Romanian keyboard (digital keyboard) appear in texting from Mac just as it appears on the iPhone and I toggle back and forth between the two? I wonder if that's not an option on the text app from Mac.

I don't need to try French or other languages when clearly the Flag of languages to toggle back and forth from doesn't even appear on my Menu Bar as it should, nor does it change the font when I toggle the languages from the shortcut on my keyboard. Last resort is to restart my mac but I doubt that will solve anything.

I will restart after I'm done working on the mac and will circle back to report if problem was solved. I'll also try then to install other language to see what happens.

Yep, it does not give me the ă â ț characters, but instead gives me [ ] \ .
