Troubleshooting Apple Brand Cables:

To compare and contrast, either cable would expectedly work. So, if one is not, yet the other is, then it is an issue with the cable. So, either get a new Apple brand cable (or request a swapout, if faulty), or stick with what you have. Going brand-for-brand is how I always go.
