Sidecar constantly loses connection

I have contacted Apple about this and still have no satisfactory conclusion. Ideally I wanted to force my iPad Pro 11 (2018) to use USB C rather than Bluetooth to connect as a sidecar display as bluetooth keeps dropping but Apple told me this is not possible as sidecar requires Bluetooth. I went through various troubleshooting steps including ensuring that the iPad was trusted but I still get the message that it's lost connection on and off all day despite always plugging it in.

Does anyone have a solution to this as I use the iPad as a 3rd display at work and it's severely impacting my productivity? I can usually get a temporary fix by turning Bluetooth on and off on both my MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2019) and iPad Pro and re-connecting but it always drops again later.
