Called/FaceTimed iPhone mutes when I make noise

Hi everyone,

For most of my friends/contacts with iPhones, calling and FaceTiming works perfectly well with no audio or other technical problems.

For one friend, if we call or FaceTime, her audio gets muted if I make any kind of noise (wind, clear my throat, run water, etc.) and her audio only comes back after the sound from my end stops. Of course I can mute and the audio from her end works totally fine, but that’s not the most convenient thing. This happens regardless of if we’re on the phone itself, AirPods, speaker, etc. and it only happens when I call her, and we both have had two different iPhones and the problem persists.

Has anyone figured out why this is happening and how to resolve it?

Thank you for your time!

Hello jackuzzi,

If you're experiencing an issue with sound while on a FaceTime call, please check out the information from the following page: If you can't make a FaceTime call on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If you have connection or sound quality issues with FaceTime

If your cellular connection or Wi-Fi network are running slow, or other users are streaming audio or video on the same Wi-Fi network, you might have these issues:

• Connection alerts or unable to connect
• Choppy video calls
• Black screen
• Dropped calls

Make sure that both you and the person that you're calling are using a fast Wi-Fi or cellular connection. If you’re using Wi-Fi, FaceTime requires a broadband connection.

Please also check out the "If people can't hear you on phone or FaceTime calls" part of the following page for some additional things to check and try: If the microphones on your iPhone aren't working

Take care!
