Gmail greyed out upon opening a mail.

When I open some of my Gmail using Safari on my MacBook the message shows for a second then I get a grayed-out portion of the message preventing me from reading the entire message. I also can't reply to the grayed-out message. It also won't allow me to return back to the message without opening up Gmail again.
