Upgrade Macbook Air 13-inch early 2014 High Sierra 10.13.6 to at least MacOS 10.15 (Catalina)

Hey,

I have now spent my whole evening trying to fix my upgrade issue. My Macbook is not allowing for any MacOS upgrades at all, and different error pop-ups appear each time I try to install either Mojave or Catalina. I get either "the recovery server could not be contacted" or "downloading installer information to the target volume failed". I have tried several ways to fix this:

1) Turn off Macbook for at least 20 min, turn it back on.

2) Change the date/time preferences accordingly with each MacOS release date.

3) Checked compatibility between my current hardware/software and desired MacOS upgrade.

4) Checked that there are both memory GB and Macintosh GB available for required update.

5) Wifi is fast and stable. (But I haven't connected my Macbook directly through ethernet yet, but I doubt that is the issue since my WIFI connection is very fast and sound).

6)Followed Apple's procedure for MacOS upgrade (I have reached/found each MacOS upgrade, both Catalina and Mojave, through Safari which has then automatically made the upgrades available through the App Store)

I'm not sure what else I can do at this point. I thought the leap was to big between High Sierra and Catalina, but I can't even get the Mojave version. What can I try next?

Go on the Apple certificate page:

Apple PKI - Apple

Download the Apple Intermediate Certificates

Apple IST CA 2 - G1 Certificate (direct download)

Double click the downloaded certificate to install it in Keychain Access.

You should see it now, in login certificates.

Perhaps to engage the certificate within the Keychain; as described, may allow it to be useful?

Several of those links already provided, show active Trust certificates; as very good examples.

• Keychain Access - User Guide for Mac - Apple Support

//support.apple.com/guide/keychain-access/welcome/11.0/mac

"macOS uses a number of trust policies to determine whether a certificate is trusted.

Each certificate can have a different policy. In 'Keychain Access', you can can view the

details of the certificate trust policy, in the Trust section of the certificate."

• Create your own certificate authority in Keychain Access on Mac - Apple Support

//support.apple.com/guide/keychain-access/create-your-own-certificate-authority-kyca2686/11.0/mac/12.0

Certificate Assistant - Apple Support

The Certificate Assistant in Keychain Access provides an easy way to create

and manage certificates. For example, you can use Certificate Assistant to:

  • Create a certificate
  • Create a certificate authority
  • Create a certificate for someone else as a certificate authority
  • Request a certificate from a certificate authority
  • Set the default certificate authority
  • Evaluate a certificate

• Create self-signed certificates in Keychain Access on Mac - Apple Support

//support.apple.com/guide/keychain-access/create-self-signed-certificates-kyca8916/11.0/mac/12.0

• Change certificate trust policies on Mac - Apple Support

//support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/change-certificate-trust-policies-on-mac-mchlp2824/mac

(details in this suggest opportunities to adapt changes)

• Keychain Access User Guide (Table of Contents) for Mac - Apple Support

//support.apple.com/guide/keychain-access/toc/11.0

There are certain items in these pages, to 'validate end-user secure certificate' updates.

Earlier were great examples; for older through newer macOS versions; that still work.

Thanks for your help. I downloaded the correct certificate, but it doesn't seem to be helping. I can view the certificate in both "login" and "system" as a file, but it is not under "My certificates" - perhaps that is the issue? I have tried several times to lock in the keychain under both login and system, and that requires a keychain password which I type in and it accepts it, but nothing more happens... :(
