DNS Resolution Failure

For the last week my MacBook Air will not connect to the internet. It connects to Wifi, I can see it on my Orbi router but I have no internet. This is the only device of 15 devices having an issue. MacBook Air is up to date. I have done the following:

1) restarted router and modem several times (I will get internet for 1-2 min after this sometimes.

2) run in safe mode, issue still exists

3) deleted wifi network from computer, restart and reconnect

4) cleared cache

5) hard reset of modem

this is extremely frustrating as this is the only device. My ISP is stumped also.

what else can I do?

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 12.3

What makes you think you have a DNS failure? If you get connected and can surf for any amount of time, well ... you are able to connect.

Does your router's security require a MAC validation to connect and if so is your Mac's MAC on the list. This is not likely though I'd guess.

If your other devices are connecting as expected, I'd think your router and modem are not the problem.

Have you restarted ... normal and safe mode?

If all else fails, it's time to consider reinstalling the OS. Command + R at start up will allow for that. Your data, apps and setting will not new disturbed. However, a setting may be your problem. If that happens to be the case, erasure of the drive and fresh installation of the OS (be certain you have a very recent backup) may fix your problem.

Of course you always have the option to contact Apple support or to take your Mac in for a hands-on evaluation of the hardware. You can do this yourself if your Mac allows it: Use Apple Diagnostics to test your Mac - Apple Support

Apple support: Start with "Get Support" link at upper right on this page

Network diagnosis came back with DNS resolution failure.

as stated, I am on wifi not the internet. I cannot surf the web, it stays connected for all of 2 min, if that.

macbook is showing connected to my router

tried safe mode

I have no issue connecting to other networks, it is only my home network the last week. So they will not be able to replicate the issue in store.

If you get connected to the internet at all, for any amount of time, you're "on" the internet. The problem is spontaneous disconnects. Maybe this can help: https://www.howtoisolve.com/wifi-not-working-on-mac-after-update-os-x-yosemite-mavericks/. It's quite old but it might spur a memory or something.

A better reference: https://piunikaweb.com/2021/11/29/macos-12-monterey-slow-internet-speed-wi-fi-disconnecting-issues/

What did the tech say about your problem when you were "in the store"? Did he offer any suggestions?

Is this a new problem? If so, what changed just prior to it happening?

It’s not spontaneous, I am completely offline. The only time I am online is when I restart the router or modem and it reconnects for 2 min tops then disconnects. This started a week ago and nothing has changed. It just happened out of the blue. I have 14 other devices online on my home network without a problem. It’s just my MacBook Air.

i didn’t go to the store, I just said they wouldn’t be able to replicate it so there’s no point to go to the store.
