Lag when voice texting after 15.4.1 update

Since doing the update, when I voice text there is a big lag between saying "hey siri text xxxx" and when I can start to dictate the text. I tried disabling dictation and restarting my iPhone and it is still occurring.

I tried it with Bluetooth on using earbuds, and with Bluetooth turned off. It occurs in both situations. I am using an iPhone 8 plus.

iPhone 5c, iOS 10

I have the same problem. Siri responds (quickly) to "Hey Siri new message to soandso" but then at least a 6 second lag before the "beep" indicating she is finally ready to listen. The lag is sooo long it took me a while to figure out what was going on.

Still doing it in ios 15.5.

I constantly use Siri to dictate messages when I'm driving and it's really aggravating.

Hi Alma,

Siri is working, it's the lag that is the problem. Here's what happens currently:

I say "hey siri text xxxx"

Siri says "what do you want to say" and there there is a 6-10 second lag before the "beep" where it records what I want to say.

Previously, Siri would say "what do you want to say" and then would immediately beep and being recording the dictation.

Only thing that works is changing the voice. Standard American Voice 4, the primary one it is set to, seems to be the ONLY voice that has the 9 second lag before you can vocally text. The other four American voices and every other, Australian, British, etc. works. Now why cant you guys just fix this? Why did I have a Apple rep on the phone who wanted to do full bore diagnostics on my phone, then contact tier 2 who was "bound to ask me to wipe out and reset my entire phone" when it is a problem with your last update? At least put it in the notes somewhere to save your people time and not put the clients through hours of worthless steps?

Hey there, pedxing6!

Thanks so much for using Apple Support Communities.

We want to help make sure that Siri is working as expected and that you're able to relay your messages seamlessly. To that end, we want to recommend that you disable dictation and reboot your iPhone before enabling it and testing again. You can do that from Settings > General > Keyboard. Once you reboot, re-enable that feature and let's see if it works a little more quickly.

The next thing we'd suggest is testing this issue on and off Wi-Fi (as well as when connected to a different Wi-Fi network). Sometimes network issues can prevent Siri from working as well as possible.

We hope that this information is helpful.

Have a great day!

Hi Nathan,

Thanks for your help on this!

disabled dictation, rebooted iPhone, then enabled dictation. Lag still occurs.

Tried voice texting on 2 different wi-fis, and with wifi disabled, and lag happened each of those times as well.

So still need help figuring out why this started to happen after the more recent update.

Thanks,

karen

Had this problem on my previous iPhone SE.

In the last week or so leading up to 15.6.1 it seemed like 2 out of 5 times, the problem went away, then after upgrading to 15.6.1 the problem went back to 100% of the time.

Then... I upgraded my phone to an iPhone SE 3rd Gen, I installed my backup from the 1st phone onto the new one - so the new phone has the same settings as the old. The problem went away.

So I'm wondering if there is a hardware component to this issue... perhaps it only affects certain iPhone models earlier than ____?
