AirPrint options for Dymo labelwriter 320 using raspberry pi

I have set up a raspberry pi zero to act as a print server using CUPS. This should allow me to use AirPrint on my iPad to print labels on my Dymo Labelwriter 320. I can indeed print to labels size 2.2”x4”, but this is the only size that I can get working. The AirPrint menu offers only 10 label sizes including the 2.2” x 4” size which is a bit too big for my preference. None of the choices are useful for me.

I would like to use my stock of 57mm x 32mm labels, but despite these being sold as compatible with the Label writer this size option does not appear on the AirPrint drop down list.

The CUPS server on the Pi also has choices and this does allow the 57mm x 32mm option, but it prints sideways across two labels.

I have tried editing CUPS config files, without success.

I can’t figure out where Airprint gets the list of size options from.

Is it a hidden configuration file on the Raspberry Pi? If so can I edit it to include my preference?

Is it from the printer hardware? If so why are there only 10 random options?

I am running out of ideas.

Hi Notappleseed,

Thanks for contacting Apple Support Communities!

We understand that you're attempting to print to your Dymo Labelwriter 32 but you don't see the correct paper size in AirPrint.

AirPrint displays the sizes that are available to print to based on the printer itself. You can learn more about printing via AirPrint from your iPhone here: Use AirPrint to print from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

We'd recommend that you contact the printer manufacturer for additional assistance with printing a specific label size. They'd be best suited to assist you. You can reach out to Dymo here: Contact Dymo

Take care!

Thank you for your reply, and the URL links you provided. I have sent a request to Dymo, and I await their response. The link to instructions on how to print to AirPrint is not really helpful as I have already been following this.

Please can you clarify. You say that AirPrint displays sizes based on the printer.

Do you mean the possible sizes are stored within the printer? This seems unlikely as the Dymo Label Writer 320 does not have AirPrint.

The Raspberry Pi CUPS server software has a configuration file which includes 10 label size options, but these are mostly not the same 10 options displayed on my iPad when I use AirPrint.

My preferred size 57mm x 32mm is shown in the CUPS configuration file, but does not appear as a choice on the iPad.

So obviously if the AirPrint choices are different from the configuration file, the iPad must be getting its list of options from elsewhere.

My question is:

1/ Where does the iPad get the AirPrint options from?

2/ Can I edit the source?
