No Play button in Apple TV app on iPhone

I’ve been using Apple TV for month across multiple devices. My subscription is set to renew in August 2022.


all of a sudden ability to play was removed. I literally used it earlier today on the same device (my iPhone). Tried a number of Apple originals - Tehran, Suspicion - no way to play the episode I am on.

(no answer with resolution is given there).


how do I hat it back?

The issue was consistent across all my devices. I tried all of it yesterday - restart the app, reboot the device, sign in / sign out (on those devices that allow it; not sure how I would do it on iPhone). Nothing helped. Other streaming apps worked just fine at the same time I the same devices.


it looks like that was caused by an outage in some Apple service that is responsible for subscription verification. Things went back to normal after a while.


the experience during this outage was sup par. You have no idea that it’s just the app can’t communicate with the service and not that something actually wrong with your device, app, etc. it would help a lot and save quite a bit of time if Apple TV app was explocit about the issue and further action. Eg can’t validate your subscription, try again later. Instead of just silently removing play capability while still showing my subscription will renew in August.

We're happy to help you get back to enjoying your Apple TV+ subscription. Have you double checked the rest of your devices to see if those ones work? We're also curious if you can sign out and back in to your Apple ID to see if that helps refresh the service? You'd want to just open up the TV app, tap Watch Now and then tap your profile in the upper, right hand corner of the screen and choose 'Sign Out'.


After that, sign back in and see if you're able to have any luck.
