Word/office 365 - How do I change the style of endnote numbers in the body of the text?

Using Word on Mac.

Want to change the style of the endnote numbers in the body of the text - they are currently superscript and I don't want them to be. I want them to be smaller than the rest of the text but not superscript, and I'd like them to be in brackets so like this (32) but smaller.

And I have hundreds of them so I want them all to change at once.

I don't want to change the style in the endnotes themselves (at the end of the document). Just the style of the numbers in the text itself.

CANNOT work out how to do this except for one.at.a.time :( and cannot work out at all how to get brackets round them all.

Can anyone help, please?
