HBO Max

My family has a subscription to HBO max.

Is that from HBO Max directly, or through a reseller (App Store, or TV provider, or other bundle)? I.e. do they have a separate HBO Max account, or is it through Apple ID billing, or using other account credentials?

Sharing is intended from “immediate family or household”. One HBO Max subscription can be used on multiple devices with up to 3 simultaneous streams. An HBO Max account can have up to 5 user profiles.

It is a different email than mine.

The HBO Max app Sign-in will ask for an existing HBO Max account, something that HBO can verify. That doesn’t have to match your email, but it won’t recognize subscriptions on an Apple ID account that way.

When I download the app it will not let me change the email address. Is there a work around?

Subscription on an Apple ID account can only be shared using Family Sharing, for apps that support that. The App Store doesn’t currently list the HBO Max app as supporting Family Sharing.
