How can watch/rent/purchase an Apple TV movies on smart TV (Sony) with only Apple TV+ app and subscription. The AppleTV+ app finds the movie on a searc and displays the title... even puts up a How to Watch button... which explains that i can watch it on a device with Apple TV app.... but offers no way to actually do that. What am i missing? Thanks.

For undisclosed reasons, the Apple TV app on Android TV and Sony smart TVs unfortunately doen’t support in-app financial transactions anymore. The alternative is to do the buying, renting, subscribing on a different supported device, and once that is done, watch it on your TV. That different device can be your iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, Mac, different smart TV or streaming device (non-Android TV/non-Sony/non-Fire TV).
2. On Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, and Sony TV devices, you can't purchase content from the Apple TV app. You can buy, rent, or subscribe on another supported device and then watch in the Apple TV app on your Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, or Sony TV device.
