Rules tutorial?

Hello. I would like to learn how to craft email rules, as well as the specifics of how they work in Mail, Contacts, etc. Is there a tutorial on Rules recommended by this Community?

It seems my best approach is to crack the books, so I've downloaded a guide from the Take Control folks.

Thank you for replying. What I understand from following these links is Rules are crafted from Apple scripting language. Would you please point me towards a tutorial on Apple scripting language? I also would also like to know more about the server-client relationships between Mail in iCloud, macOS, iOS, so I can build Rules that trigger server-side and cascade, rather than on individual clients on separate devices.

Actually, all this is only so I can establish sets of directions for incoming classes of emails (notifications, monthly billing, receipts, etc.) to be separated and filed from the few emails I want to read. That type of tutorial would be more to the point.
