Junk mail goes to trash when deleted. Why?

I find that whenever I “delete all” my AOL Junk mail, it is just moved to the trash folder instead of being completely deleted. Why does this happen, and is there a way around it?

junk mail I use Apple mail. Every time I check my mail, several times a day, there are 2 or 3 or more pieces of junk mail in my junk folder. Is there a way to just delete these automatically or do I have to manually do it every time I check my mail? These junk mails don't show up on my ipad or iphone, just the imac.

Any email that you delete goes into trash.
