Blocked Mail not going to Trash

In Mail preferences I set blocked mail to go directly to Trash. It's not. It goes to the Junk mail inbox instead. I have to manually go through a hundred or more junk mails from blocked senders every day and send them to Trash. Previous questions about this issue here in the community have come up blank. Updating to 12.3.1 didn't do the trick. I found out while troubleshooting this issue that in order to get email from a blocked sender to go straight to trash, you have to first add that sender to your Contacts! Then go to Mail, Preferences, Junk Mail, Blocked, hit the plus sign and that will open your contact list. Scroll through the list to find the sender and select it to be blocked. Now any future email from that blocked sender will go straight to Trash. What a PIA!! Who wants to manually add hundreds of senders to your Contacts just so you can block them to go straight to Trash? No, we want to batch select emails from Junk, or even the Inbox, tag them as blocked, and have future emails from them go to Trash. I am in conversation with Apple Support about this and have informed them of my findings about having to add undesirable senders to Contacts just to block them to go straight to Trash. They are reporting it to Engineering. Perhaps in the near future they will have this fixed. Standby, again...

Hello mguerra,

Thank you for your question to Apple Support Communities.

We understand that the blocked senders feature is not working as expected. In Mail app, do you have "Move it to the Trash" selected at Settings > Preferences > Junk Mail > "Blocked" tab?

That should help. If you're still experiencing an issue, we recommend contacting Apple Support: Contact Apple Support

Have a nice day.

Often I deal with a new vendor, business or person who later sends an email. Now and then their email may go to Junk. Since I am expecting an email from them I have to go through all the Junk every day to be certain their legit mail didn't go there. If I could block all the repeat junkmail senders and have those emails go straight to Trash that would be very helpful and drastically reduce the amount of emails in Junk. And Mail preferences purports to do just that. However, it's not working. But Apple Support staff are working on it, I have had two phone calls with them in the last 24 hours. I get the sense they intend to solve it. It was quite serendipitous that I figured out the sender has to be in your Contacts for this "blocked sender go to trash" preference to apply. I think this may be the key to Apple fixing this.

Yes I am in contact with them now. The first step they said was to update the software, to 12.3.1, which I have done. Now I am monitoring the Junk inbox to see if any blocked emails are landing there, or if they go to Trash as specified. Over the next few hours I expect to get some blocked sender emails so we will see... Standby.
