Maximising a screen now hides the dock

Hi there,

I used to be able to maximise any screen such that both the menu bar and dock remain visible.

Now, when I maximise any application, it goes full-screen, hiding the menu bar and dock which is NOT what I want. I don't want full screen, just maximise screen.

I haven't messed around with any settings or preferences and don't know why this started happening (as of yesterday).

Any ideas on solving this would be appreciated.

Maz

Apple switched the default behavior of the Zoom button to be a "Full Screen" button. To get zoom, hold down the Option key and click the green (+) button.

Full screen does exactly that. It covers the full screen and hides the dock and menu bar.

Maximise screen will maximise the screen but shows the menu bar and the dock (if auto-hide dock isn't set).

I've found a work around using Magnet which does have a Maximise Screen option which I've set as CTRL-Z (maybe the Windows command, can't remember as it's years and years since I've used Windows).

For some reason, I hate Full Screen - maybe because I like to always see the menu bar without having to move the cursor up to the top and also, to see the dock.

Thanks, Maz

Thanks Barney but it was definitely working yesterday and I've not done any software upgrades.

I just hit the green traffic light and maximises my screen. I am aware of the Option process but all this does is to enlarge the screen somewhat, not full width, nor full height. It probably uses some manual resizing I did and it stores those as preferences.

I really just want to be able to press the green traffic light and get the maximum size. I want to do this without dragging or double clicking on the screen borders to maximise width or height.

Thanks, Maz

I know about this and it's pretty long-winded doing this for many of your apps.

I use an app called Magnet and am constantly resizing screens. Up until yesterday, to maximise a screen, I just clicked the green traffic light which took a fraction of a second unlike your method which takes longer.

Thanks, Maz

It probably uses some manual resizing I did and it stores those as preferences.

Zoom toggles between the smallest window that can contain the content, and a user defined size. That will normally fit top to bottom, but some smaller width than the screen.

I have no idea what Full Screen does as I never use it. I thought it hid the menu bar and dock.
