Need an option to keep the dock hidden when I move pointer to bottom of screen

My first hope is that somebody can offer me a solution here.

My second hope is that Apple somehow hears this complaint and addresses it because it's a pretty big violation of the "it just works" philosophy that underpins the Apple experience.

I keep my dock hidden to maximize screen real estate. It dutifully pops up whenever I want it to, by just moving my pointer to the bottom of the screen. The problem is that it also pops up when I DON'T want it to: when I'm trying to resize a window from the bottom. Resizing a window is a tremendously basic user interface action and this is a roadblock. Command-Option-D does not help (try it).

What's needed is an option to hold down some modifier key (Command makes sense) to inhibit the dock from appearing. This is a REALLY simple problem to solve and a REALLY, REALLY annoying one to have persist in a world that generally behaves in a logical, predictable manner. It's an "it just DOESN'T work" kind of thing.

Anybody? Apple?

Leroy, please note my first hope: that I might be offered a solution here. Sounds like that hope is dashed on the rocks of reality. I have filed this as a feedback request as suggested.

I will certainly confess to being passionate on this, but am realistic about where my particular molehill fits within the mountain range of customer support issues Apple must deal with. As I said, I can live with it, but it just doesn't feel right. I'll also admit that I might be feeling a bit frisky about my ability to move mountains after getting Apple Engineering to acknowledge an issue and commit to fixing it in a future OS update just last week. Might have made me overly optimistic about getting other things I consider worthy issues addressed. Thanks for the reality check. Expectations managed.

While I do appreciate the attempts to help, I'm already aware of what people are telling me here. I've been using Macs since the days of the Mac Plus and worked for Apple for eight years. I get that sometimes we need to modify our behavior to accommodate the interface. I've counseled no small number of friends over the years who have made the transition from Windows to Mac that they first have to unlearn what they've learned on the Windows platform to have the MacOS do their bidding.

I don't think this falls into that category. Going slow to avoid the bump is like having to hold my iPhone in a certain way to not have it mess with the antenna (we know where that issue went). This is a pretty fundamental UI issue. I run into it almost daily. I can live with it as it is, but it's annoying and it just doesn't feel right. <sigh...>

Thanks for the link to feedback. I'll post there.

Well tomfromsouthborough— you can carry-on rhapsodizing poetically however our hands are tied here in a user-to-user support forum, your only option is to provide feedback concerning the UI if you expect to solicit a change.

I will add over all the years in the ASC— yours is the first I remember having such a fervent view on what should be fundamental to the Dock function...

Maybe Customer Support  (800) MYAPPLE (800–692–7753) will lend a more compassionate ear.
