Need an option to keep the dock hidden when I move pointer to bottom of screen
My first hope is that somebody can offer me a solution here.
My second hope is that Apple somehow hears this complaint and addresses it because it's a pretty big violation of the "it just works" philosophy that underpins the Apple experience.
I keep my dock hidden to maximize screen real estate. It dutifully pops up whenever I want it to, by just moving my pointer to the bottom of the screen. The problem is that it also pops up when I DON'T want it to: when I'm trying to resize a window from the bottom. Resizing a window is a tremendously basic user interface action and this is a roadblock. Command-Option-D does not help (try it).
What's needed is an option to hold down some modifier key (Command makes sense) to inhibit the dock from appearing. This is a REALLY simple problem to solve and a REALLY, REALLY annoying one to have persist in a world that generally behaves in a logical, predictable manner. It's an "it just DOESN'T work" kind of thing.
Anybody? Apple?
