importing 1080i video from Sony HVR Z1u camcorder

I have a Sond HVR Z1u camcorder. I am attempting to import 1080i video via a 1394 cable through an Apple converter to USB-C (Thunderbolt). My FCP 10.6.2 software doesn't recognize the camera. What do I do?

The camera is recognized in iMovie, but when we press the import button in iMovie nothing happens. When we got the camera 12 years ago we had no issues importing to that years version of iMovie, so I'm wondering if there's a compatibility issue with the newer versions of iMovie? If anyone has any suggestions or answers into how to import from this particular Sony Handycam model it would be greatly appreciated!

latest iMovie can't import from DV camcorder I was able to able to import from my DV camcorder in 06-2018. I've recently tried to repeat this process with the same setup (cam, iMac, cables) however it doesn't work. iMovie ver. (10.1.15) recognizes the camera but can't control it to import.

What software options do I have to upload HDV from a Sony HDR-HC3 which is not on the supported camera list? I have a Sony HDR-HC3 HDV Handycam and would like to transfer video to the computer (really any compure) using the ilink (firewire) connection. The camera is not on the list of cameras supported by iMovie. I have used dongles to convert from firewire to Thunderbolt 3 and have also tried Thunderbolt on a Macbook pro. Neither recognize the camera. I also have a Sony GV HD700 with firewire output, and it isn't recognized either. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Several discussions here recently have concluded that firewire import is broken in 12.3.1. Send Apple feedback about this via Final Cut Pro->Provide Final Cut Pro Feedback... or use this link Feedback - Final Cut Pro - Apple
