HI,
I have somehow ended up with an old ( November 2020) disk image in the trash which the system will not let me delete because is says its required.
I have tried 'Force' emptying the trash
sudo rm -R *filename*
even renaming the file, which it won't let me do.
Im open to suggestions

You need to disable SIP, delete the file, then re-enable SIP
When a Sudo doesn’t work, you know it’s unwise to delete. 😉
Apple has protected that file for a reason.

I appreciate its protected for a reason and if it was current I wouldn't try to remove it.
As its a 10.15 esd.img its slightly annoying to have it jammed in the trash.
