Issue with accessing files on crashed MacBook Pro hard drive

To my surprise under "Network", I see my old computer name. I clicked "connect" my user name was there already...when I entered my password, I receive a message saying the password is invalid. I tried a couple of my other passwords just in case and none worked. After that I selected connect as a "guest". I received the message "Access to your account on the server “laptop-lib04o2o” has been denied.

If anyone can help me to understand why this is happening and how I can gain access to my files, I'd greatly appreciate it.

There are over 52 models of MBP released since January 2006 and they are not all the same....
