Is there an option to authorise apps using fingerprint on the 5th generation. I can’t see this option in settings and I am being asked for my Apple ID each time

You don't say where you looked in Settings.
The option should be available at Settings > Touch ID & Passcode > Use Touch ID For - iTunes & App Store.

Just switched option off and on - asked for my Apple ID to reactivate and it’s worked 👍
Thank you - I’ve have just checked that and that setting is activated but just gone back on App Store and it still wants my Apple ID 🤷🏼♀️
