TV app on iMac keeps Crashing

App will either not open / open but not let you do anything / open and appear to work only to crash within a few minutes / hours.

Tried clearing the cash and the warnings.

Tried signing in and out.

My one tried and true way to get it to open without much of a hassle is to disconnect from the internet then it seems to come-up okay. I can then reconnect and it will work for a while.

I also shutdown bitdefender active scanning and time machine back-ups. though other than freeing up resourses which I have plenty of neither should effect this app.

Any suggestions?

Any Third Party Applications that will interfere with the normal operation of the OS, alter, modify, remove or delete or attempt to do so is an invitation for disaster and may require a Reinstallation of the OS in-order to replace any modified, altered, removed or corrupted elements of the OS this software has inflected on this computer

Although some or all of these Applications maybe available on the Apple Apps Store, it does not mean Apple has verified what exactly the Application can do, does do or is doing to the Computer. That responsibility is left to the User to perform their due diligence on the Application before purchasing and installing it.

Any of the below should be removed as per Developers Instructions

This includes AntiVirus, Disk Cleaners, Disk Optimizes, UnInstaller etc.

This will include BitDefenderand please take a moment to read the first 600 or so posing regarding this Specific Application

This will included Norton Antivirus , Sophos Av Software

Intego AntiVirus, McAfee, MacKeeper, Avast AntiVirus

Ad Guard, Webroot

The The Built in Security  is all that is required.

I was not trying to offend just state my history with the application. If I did my sincere apologies.

I fully deleted Bitdefender application per your suggestion and the issue re-presented itself the first time I tried to open the TV App. However, I then restarted my system just to be sure and so far the issue has not returned. Bitdefender was not re-installed.

I also noticed this resolved two other issues I have been having since updating to Big Sur.

  1. The TV App taking forever to open (>10 minutes) I had attributed this to library size (well over 6000) and my low opinion of the app itself. It still does not open immediately or completely (random display images being blank) but now the average restart time is down to a few minutes. Still missing some images all the time (all iTunes purchased content) but still an 1000% improvement.
  2. External drives routinely refusing to eject for not reason I could find.

I may not have thought Bitdefender was causing/doing anything but it obviously was.

Thank you.

Thank you.

Aware of the issues some have reported with Bitdefender. Though I can honestly say my interaction with the application has been mostly positive. Unlike my experiences with the TV App since it was first released. Though in Apples defense I don't think they took people with excessively large libraries into account when they designed it.

Bitdefender has been disabled for a few days now and the TV app keeps crashing.

Not discounting the fact that an update to bitdefender could have done something but there are no virus warnings or quaranteened files to indicate anything has changed.

I recently installed an iOS update prior to this starting as well.

I will delete the uninstall Bitdefender and see if that fixes the problem.
