AOL Email on iphone 13 Not Updating Automatically

Hello. On my iphone 13, my aol emails were updating automatically just fine until about a month ago. Now in order for my emails to update, I have to go into the email app and it will fetch them.

I've located several threads on this topic and tried implementing all of the suggestions. There is no outbox so it's not any unsent emails. The email settings are set to "Push" and "15 minutes". I tried switching "15 minutes" to "automatic". Didn't make a difference. Tried to delete and set up the email again. Didn't make a difference.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

So it seems that eventually, the automatic updates stop. If you reboot the phone, they start again ... eventually stopping. There is obviously a bug in iOS that Apple seems either resistant to acknowledge or reluctant to fix.

If you search this group or google the symptom, you'll find many many complaints about this very same symptom happening on iphones. It's not targeting only me. The idea of getting automatic email refresh to work by reboot and it eventually not working with the only way of getting it to work again is via another reboot screams defect. It makes no sense to blame the email provider, if it was the provider, it would not work at all.

I get automatic refresh on all 7 of my email accounts. And I never restart my phone, except when updating. So why don’t I see this screaming defect? I suspect it has to do with your settings or expectations.

Are you using the Apple mail app or the AOL and gmail apps? With the Apple app you can only get push notifications for iCloud accounts and MS Exchange accounts, because no other provider pushes to Apple mail. AOL and gmail push only to their own apps. You can set other accounts to Fetch periodically, but that breaks if you are in the habit of routinely killing apps when you exit them.

Well, we'll have to agree to disagree on this one. I'm telling you I have proven that you can have your mail automatically updated from AOL to Apple Mail. It's happening as we speak. Now, it may be true that if you close your mail app that this "discontinues" the auto update (and in my opinion, this is a bug). I don't know what else to say.

Do you know the difference between online and batch? It should not be necessary for an app to be open "online" in order for an OS to be able to update it's database in the background. And in point of fact, when you reboot the phone to "clear" whatever is causing the defect here, it DOES update automatically in the background without opening it. It continues to update for a period of hours and then stops again.
