Malay (Malaysia) Language Not Available in Pages app

Hi,

can somebody help me about the languages in Pages app. I want to use Malay languages as my main document format. so that, I will easier to check the spelling and grammar.

unfortunately, that language is not available in my MacBook.

the weird thing is when I go to 'File > Advanced > Language & Region...' then change both the Language and Region to Malay & Malaysia, the words in the document still use the US formatting. it seems like my Malay language dictionary were not installed in my system.

Any suggestion? thanks and much appreciated.

Spellcheck has nothing to do with Pages, it is system wide function in MacOS, used by all Apple apps, and there are large number of languages where it is not yet available from Apple. But for some of those you can add you own. you just need to find and install 3rd party .dic and .aff files in Home/Library/Spelling. Here is one you can try

You regulate spellcheck on a Mac in system preferences > keyboard > text > spelling (not in the language/region or input source settings).

You can also use Word instead, which does have its own Malay spellcheck

Thanks Tom for your several suggestions.

So far the only available for grammar & spellchecking is for those the languages that has been listed in the system.

Yup, no doubt that Word processor is advanced then the Pages app (in term of this issue). The Word already had a Malay language for spellchecking purposes, installed.

I also has made a request for this issue (by implementing the third link you've given me) hoping that the language's grammar and spellcheck will be available in the future.

Thanks.

I have found out that the MacOS system still didn't provide the Malay (Malaysia) language in Pages app. I have been informed by the Apple advisory expert via calls. Therefore, the process of grammar and words/sentences checking in Malay language still unavailable for now. Hope that Apple--mostly Pages app Team--would consider to add Malay (Malaysia) language soon in the future, so that the document that has been typed with Malay languages got its own Malay's grammar and spelling checking.

Thanks Tom for your kind help.

But it goes quite different on my behalf.

  1. I've been downloaded the language extension from the link you've given from OpenOffice.org. the file that I got is 'ms_my.oxt' (is that the correct one?).
  2. Then, I put the file in the library/spelling folder.
  3. Next, I open up 'system preferences > keyboard > text > spelling', & searching the Malay languages (Bahasa Melayu). unfortunately, it is not on the list. Am I doing it in a correct way?
