Hi Jack_bingham,

Thanks for coming to Apple Support Communities for help today.

First, have a look at these steps and see if they might help: If "Hey Siri" isn't working on your iPhone or iPad.

You may want to try toggling Siri off and on, as well as testing on another network or cellular data.

Have you made sure your mics are working properly so Siri can hear you clearly? Have a look at the steps here: If the microphones on your iPhone aren't working.

If this doesn't help, please describe in further detail what exactly happens when using Siri. Are we understanding correctly that you are asking Siri to send a text message?

Have a fantastic day!

Yeah, finally a solution! Strange albeit but actually works. I changed to Australian!

Drove me crazy with no help from Apple

I was just speaking text in the car and Siri kept saying, "sorry, I have trouble hearing you"

If you dont wait for the buzz or tone prompt that takes up to 5 seconds, you are S.O.L.

You would think before sending an update out, one would not miss testing this function.

Any other phones affected other than the 7?

I recently started having this issue as well. It just happens in Messages. I begin my dictation but Siri doesn’t pick it up till several words in. The microphone is working fine. I’ve turned off ‘enable dictation’, then did a hard restart, and it still is an issue. Tried turning off wifi and also cellular to no avail. Siri responds normally in other applications…. it just isn’t working I messages.

Same thing happened to me immediately after last IOS update in April 2022. I have an iPhone 7 which has never given me any trouble whatsoever till now. Hopefully this isn’t Apple’s not-so-subtle way of nudging me into an upgrade.

I kid! When was the last time a big unregulated American tech company ever did anything even slightly underhanded? I’m sure there’s a perfectly innocent explanation for this massive loss of functionality. But I have yet to find one either on this forum or anywhere else. So hopefully they’ll solve the issue with the next update.

I recently noticed that my 'Hey Siri' started to become unresponsive when asking it to text a contact. I use this service almost 40 times a day as I am a disabled person with limited use of hands.

Normally when I say 'Hey Siri, text Mom', Siri immediately responds with 'What do you want to say'? and is ready for my voice input immediately thereafter, however the issue now is that I must wait at least 4-5 seconds before Siri is ready for my voice input after it says 'What do you want to say'?

I'm not sure when this started exactly, however I am fairly sure it came with an update. I am unsure of which update it was but it was a recent update (either 15.3 or 15.4).

Thinking it might have been from an update, I just updated to 15.5 but the problem persists.

@DJSchroeder

Can you tell us where you got this info about Apple knowing about this issue?

Ah, yes, the unintended consequences of the software “update”. And as a consumer, you are pretty much S.O..L if the most recent update renders your device far less useful than it once was. Your choices are to either a) pray that the engineers come up with a patch or a fix or b) invest in a new device.

I miss the analog world. Stuff lasted forever and everyone seemed way, way happier!!!
