Some apps do not connect to web via lte

Some apps (always LinkedIn and Words with Friends and sometimes others likeYahoo News and Smart News) will not connect to the internet via LTE. It wasn’t always like this and started several IOS updates ago, I don’t know which. The app developers say it’s not the apps because they are designed to connect via cellular data. AT&T says I exceeded my data limits, but 0.7 GB used is significantly less than my 11GB limit. They also say it depends on the nearby cell towers, but surely at least some towers in TX, FL, and AZ should have worked in the last month. Since it’s multiple independent apps and apparently not AT&T or cell towers, it must be settings. Cellular data is turned on in settings. Airplane mode is off. What other settings must I check? iPhone 6SE, IOS 15.4.1 plus some earlier IOS versions.

iPhone 6, iOS 12

Hello lain ellis,

The available setting for enabling/disabling access for cellular data for specific apps would be located at Settings > Cellular, and then toggle it on/off here in the list.

If your cellular provider notes a limit has been exceeded, that may indeed be affecting things, so you can try following up with them for further guidance on that.

You may also try connecting to Wi-Fi just to confirm those particular apps are able to work successfully at that time.

Some other things to try would be to uninstall, and then reinstall the affected apps: Delete apps on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

It may also help to try resetting the network settings. Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This also resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and VPN and APN settings that you've used before.

Cheers.
