Free Apple TV for 3 months
i have been charged for Apple TV immediately despite having bought a new iMac which should have qualified me for 3 months free

If you have had a previous extended trial for the Apple TV+ service, then you do not qualify for another free trial.
Else:
Qualifying users should redeem the offer on their new eligible Apple device, in the TV app, and find the “Enjoy 3 Months Free” redeem button there.
For Macs, users have to additionally sign in the the TV app (menu Account) for the redeem option to appear.
