Error connecting to Apple ID server, when locked out of MacBook

I lost the password to my MacBook as I haven’t opened it in over a year. I decided to reset it with my Apple ID, I know my password is right because I log in from my phone but it’s says “There was an error connecting to the Apple ID server.”

I’m connected to wifi.
