How do I do this? I cannot sync my library to the app on fire stick - I am subscribed to Apple TV for the main reason of home sharing - but just don't appear to be able to link it up?

The Apple TV app on Fire TV (or any third party device) does not facilitate Apple Home Sharing. You’ll need the Apple TV box for that.
Home Sharing does not depend on the Apple TV+ subscription, nor any other subscription.
