Add a non-Apple Music file to a playlist without losing the playlist?

I like to add my own music files to my Apple Music playlists but lately when I do that it tells me that all my music will be deleted from icloud and then most of my Apple Music playlist songs disappear!...and it doesn't add the file I put in originally. Anyone know how to do this?

Thanks

Mac Pro, macOS 12.3

See Identify cloud status icons in your music library on your Mac or PC - Apple Support. If you add ineligible content to a playlist it can no longer be shared using iCloud Music Library. Ineligible content might be too long, too short, too large, have too low a bitrate, be purchased from another Apple ID, etc. In some cases you may be able to make a copy of the track in an acceptable format that can be used.

Apple Music has a feature where you can add a playlist to the library without adding the tracks of the playlist to your library as part of the main Songs collection. If you break that playlist, and it is the only way you access those tracks, then you'll lose them. If you cancel adding to the playlist when you see the warning the list should remain unaffected.
