Email won't delete

Macbook Pro Mid 2015

Monterey 12.3.1

No mail rules causing a problem

My gmail at the gmail website works fine

Problem: I receive email (Version 16.0 (3696.80.82.1.1)). I read it. I delete it. It stays in my "Inbox". If I click on any other box within 'Mail' and then go back into my "Inbox" it will have gone to the "Trash".

My Gmail website account works fine, as do my other website email accounts.

I have deleted extraneous folders and emails to free up space.

I don't want to delete my Gmail in my "Mail" account if I lose all of my saved items.

What can I do?

rubynrse,

With only part of your emails being moved to trash, try rebuilding your mailbox. This does not change any of your mail settings.

In the Mail app  on your Mac, select a mailbox in the sidebar.
Choose Mailbox > Rebuild.

You can find additional information in Rebuild mailboxes in Mail on Mac

Regards.

Hello rubynrse,

We certainly understand not wanting all emails moving to the Trash folder. From what you are describing, it sounds like a filter has been added making the emails move. Usually the filters for the email is found on the providers site, in this case, your Gmail account online.

You will want to go and login to your Gmail account and look at the settings to make sure nothing has changed there. If you need help finding the filters, see Gmail Help.

If you are still seeing your emails go to the Trash folder, and you have verified all your Gmail settings are correct, you will want to contact Apple Support by going to Get Support.

Take care!

I'm afraid you misunderstood. All of my emails are coming to my inbox.

After reading them I click on the trash can and another unread email pops up

But, the one I just clicked on to delete it won't go to the trash. The email content is gone but the heading stays in my inbox.

In order for me to get the heading to disappear I have to click on Archive and then click back into Inbox where it will have disappeared.
