Logitech Slim Folio keyboard disconnects from iPad bluetooth, won’t type but controls iPad, May 2022
Logitech Slim Folio keyboard and iPad 15.4.1 issue, 2 May 2022
These issues started happening right after a separate keyboard problem (not switching between languages using the Caps Lock key, which it had always done) either resolved itself or was fixed. Now, another similar keyboard issue. The Slim Folio keyboard keeps disconnect from Bluetooth, and I have to reseat it then use the Caps Lock key to switch to Russian then back to English and then I can type; otherwise, it no longer types but starts to control the iPad in various ways. See below for details.
Slim Folio keyboard seems to disconnect from iPad bluetooth. Fresh batteries, turn on/off bluetooth, restart iPad has not alleviated the problem. I have to lift the iPad off the keyboard — it rests there with the help of magnets — and set it back down, then it reconnects. I have to do this about every 30 seconds or so.
SlimFolio keyboard won’t type 99.9% of the time. Instead, it seems to be doing various things on the iPad. For instance:
- tapping the spacebar brings up an iPad search popup.
- tapping the T opens a new browser tab in Firefox, Edge, and Safari.
- tapping the R refreshes whichever tab I’m on.
- Very rarely, when I switch to a different app, like from a broswer back to the iPad Notes app I’m typing this in, the keyboard actually works, but for literally one letter only. Then it disconnects again.
I seem to have stumbled upon a “solution.” Pressing the Caps Lock key to switch to a different keyboard language (English to Russian in my case) enables regular typing on the keyboard again! But only as long as it takes to type a typical sentence. Then the keyboard stops working, and I have to lift the iPad off the keyboard and reseat it and do the Caps Lock language toggle again.
As an aside, I remember when I updated to 15.4.0 or .1, it said something about new features for controling the iPad, but nothing ever changed for me. I read them and was like, “Sheesh I’m gonnna have to be fixing a lot of stuff that is gonna change,” but almost nothing did. ****The only thing that DID change was in Firefox.**** I lost the ability to close a tab by tapping the little X on the right side of each tab. I had to click the Home button to see all the tabs displayed as tiles and then close each one. Ever since these keyboard issues started yesterday, I can now close any tab in Firefox by clicking on the X. Maybe I should uninstall and reinstall Firefox, hahaha… Dont know why or how that would affect how my Slim Folio keyboard is interacting with my iPad, but hey, stranger things have happened.
