i updated my mac mini 2018 to Monterey 12.3.1 (with bug fix to recognize usb-c monitor) and it's still not recognizing my second monitor. What do i do now?
You need a USB-C to HDMI adapter to connect a second HDMI display.
Apple sells two USB-C to HDMI adapters. The Apple USB-C to Multi Port adapter and a Belkin USB-C to HDMI adapter. There are also numerous aftermarket USB-C the HDMI adapters that are Mac compatible.
Possibly, but I suspect that cable was substandard to begin with.

Lenovo L27m-28. I go straight from my mac mini directly into the monitor. The standard hdmi cable works directly into this monitor but i need the hdmi cable for my main monitor. This Lenovo is my second monitor.
ok great! I appreciate that. I will get one of those. However, before this update, the monitor had been working perfectly fine without this adapter. Did the update remove this capability?
i bought a new usb-c to hdmi cable and it doesn't work on the monitor at all. And I can't even the detect display to come up at all. This is so frustrating.

I suggested getting the Apple recommended adapters, not another cable.
