why isn’t there a tracker inside the case alone, without the airpods inside it?

i have my two airpods in my ear walking home, i notice the case is gone. i spent a hour trying to figure out how to track the case location and i’ve now found out you can’t. why cant you track the case alone without the airpods? i’m now with two slowly dying airpods and stressing out where my case could be.!

Find My uses the chipset/Bluetooth in the AirPods to track them which is why the Find My range is very limited. The case has no reason to have Bluetooth and it would add cost/complexity. But as to exactly why they don't you would need to ask Apple executives and they probably won't respond. Try to remember the last place you recall actually having it and retrace your steps from there. Good luck. AirPods and AirPods Case Replacement - Official Apple Support
