Hi, I have a MacBook Air and the drag and drop functionality broke after upgrading to Monterey 12.3.1
I have tried turning off the haptic settings on the trackpad, deleting the .Plist file and several reboots with no joy.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get this working again?

Put your computer in safe mode and try to drag and drop. Safe mode limits exemptions and login items that are allowed to run while performing a basic system check. How to use safe mode on your Mac.

Since this happens even in safe mode you'll need to reinstall macOS and make sure all your software has been updated.
If the issue continues in safe mode
If the issue continues while in safe mode, or your Mac restarts several times and then shuts down while starting up in safe mode, you should reinstall macOS and make sure that your Apple software and third-party apps are up to date.

Hi Astro24. Thanks for the advice. I followed the instructions and the words “Safe Boot” appear in red at the top right of the screen (see pic). Unfortunately drag and drop still hangs and won’t complete.
Ok, checked that but drag and drop is most definitely enabled.
Drag and Drop does work occasionally but most of the time it just shows a progress bar that never completes
