Connecting Thunderbolt (1-2) external drives to M1 Mac Mini
I have an M1 Mac Mini and am using it with a CalDigit ElementHub. I have two older Thunderbolt (1 or 2) external drives (a LaCie rugged and a WD My Passport Pro). I purchased the Apple Thunderbolt 1-2 to Thunderbolt 3 adapter and find that the LaCie works fine with it but the Passport doesn't. The Passport simply doesn't show in Locations (or Desktop) when I plug it in.
I tried connecting the WD to the Thunderbolt port on an older MacBook Air I have and it starts up OK. I'm trying to figure out why, I need to use the WD with the Mini. My GUESS is that the WD needs power and the adapter doesn't supply it (I guess the LaCie doesn't), while the TB port on the Air does.
Does the above sound right or should I exchange the cable for another one? I don't want to futz with the WD, I need the files on it and it's so old it might go at any time. :)
Thanks in advance for any advice and/or info.
