Apply Thunderbolt display with Mac Book Pro

I am using a Mac Book Pro (13 inch - 2020) running macOS 12.3.1 and connecting with an Apply Thunderbolt display (2011) that I have been using for long time. My problem is that after I upgrade to 12.3.1 something wrong with the display. The Apple Thunderbolt display is blacked out. I have to restart my Mac Book Pro to get to work again. And, after using for sometimes, the display is blacked out again. This happens a lot after upgrading to 12.3.1. This is really a problem since when I doing zoom conference the display goes black, and interrupts the meeting all the times.

I wonder if there is anyway to fix this. If anyone can help, please let me know.

Hello anukal_chiralak,

Just to confirm, when the issue happens, does it appear that the display isn't being detected?

If you're experiencing an issue with an external display not being detected, please check out this link for some steps that may help: If your external display isn't detected or appears blurry when connected to your Mac

If your display is blank or not detected

Try these steps if you don't see an image on your display.

Check your cable or adapter

Disconnect the cable from your external display from your Mac, then reconnect it. If the cable from your external display doesn't connect to the ports on your Mac, you can use a USB-C or Thunderbolt adapter. If you're using a USB-C or Thunderbolt adapter to connect a display, the adapter must be compliant with DisplayPort Alt Mode or Thunderbolt / USB 4.

If you continue to experience an issue, please contact Apple Support for further assistance. You may be able to reach them here: Get Support

Thanks!

Thanks for helping. I use Apple's usb-c to Thunderbolt adapter which I bought from Apple's store. The display is detected. I can use it with MacBook Pro properly when I turn on my notebook. However, after some time, the display just goes black but the camera, speakers, and all the windows (for example, Safari's window, etc) are still open on the display. I know that it is still there because I can move my mouse to the Thunderbolt display from my MacBook's display which are connected as extended display (and when I set that windows to appear on the MacBook's display, it appears again but the Apple Thunderbolt display is still totally black out). So, I know that it is still there but it just blacks out.

Just to give further details:

  1. Before I upgrade macOS, the display is not all the times detected, i.e., sometimes when I turn on my MacBook the Apply Thunderbolt display is detected, and sometimes it is not. Or, sometimes while I use the Apply Thunderbolt display, it is just suddenly not detected and goes off. The speaker, camera, and all other devices that are daisy-chained via Thunderbolt cables do not work.
  2. After I upgrade macOS to 12.3.1, it seems that the problem of not being detected is solved. The display is etched every time when the MacBook is turned on. However, it becomes that it can go black out but is still detected as I explain above.

At this point, I am trying to find out what I should do. My question now is :

  1. Should I try to reset the SMC as I have seen some posts suggesting to do so. Would it help?
  2. Should I just contact Apple support to solve this issue.
