I'm thinking of buying the 4K version of the apple TV device, I understand it now supports all4 app.. but I've also read that the app itself on Apple TV will not support HDMI connection.
Is this true, it does seem odd as this is the way the device connects to any tv ?

The Apple TV box must use HDMI for the connection to the screen.
Not sure what or where you read differently, but it is not true.
