No.

Microsoft does not provide free upgrades between major versions of their Office products (unless you subscribe to Microsoft 365) and older versions of Office are not compatible with macOS Catalina, Big Sur, or Monterey.

If you have a version of Microsoft Office that is not compatible, you can either subscribe to Microsoft 365 or you can make a one-time purchase. See: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/mac/microsoft-365-for-mac

Or use the free and very good Libre Office https://www.libreoffice.org/

or the free Microsoft Office on the web: https://products.office.com/en-us/free-office-online-for-the-web

or Google Docs: https://www.google.com/docs/about/

or Apple’s Pages and Numbers

Although LibreOffice is a mature and stable solution and a product I like, I offer one caveat that may or may not affect you.

If you have only a few Word docs you created with Office 2011, this is not a concern. Nothing to see here.

However If, like me, you have thousands of Word files, read on...

When my old iMac died in late 2018, I tried LibreOffice to replace Office on the new iMac. LO was causing some minor but noticeable formatting changes—most apparent as margin changes—to Office 2008 files from the old computer.

The changes were too noticeable to ignore.

They could be fixed but only one doc at a time. I found no way to make batch changes to thousands of Word files.

I finally bought Office 2019. Zero issues.
