Low memory warning

My 14” Mac Pro is only 6 months old and has 16 gig ram….I am getting this message …

Your computer is low on memory

to free up some memory, please close a few applications.

i specifically got large ram as my iMac went slow when I had multiple applications open, but I never got that message

i use lightroom, luminar neo and Facebook and often at the same time.

why does my iPad give this message and my iMac with 8g ram, simply slows down…which is also annoying …but understandable

thank you

MacBook Pro 14″, macOS 12.3

One of the reasons would be that these types of apps are naturally resource hogs; they demand the very good/fast processor, the more RAM the better, and plenty of empty hard drive space for the editing/rendering tasks (a good recommendation used to be that you should have three times the empty space available for the size of the project files you are working on. That type of work is the most resource intensive work for any computer.

I would not run two of those apps at the same time - make it easier on the Mac to be able to "keep up" - unless you have the latest processor and tons of RAM as well as space. I used to keep available at least 200 GB of empty space before I started a movie project using Final Cut.

I have no comment re. Facebook - have never used it.

Okay, so why don't you compare the Geekbench results for your laptop and the iMac here - pick your model laptop:

https://everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/index-macbookpro.html

and then do the same thing with the iMac.

I don't have a current model laptop (or iMac for that matter) so the results I'd get would not be helpful.

You can also get the app and test yourself; there used to be a way to look up thousands of results neatly organized, but I could no longer find it (results showing the performance using Adobe, etc).

Thank you. I have plenty of had space on my laptop..it is only new. I use LR and then EDIT IN luminar thru LR…..LR sends it to Luminar And then back again. ..so they need to be open at the same time to do this…

l would have thought 16 ram would have been adequate for this as many who do a lot of work in LR, PS commented it would be plenty. I would have had to rob a bank to go for 32g ram lol….

Facebook takes up a lot of room, I know that. I could always shut that down

as I don’t get that message in my imac, which has 8g ram (but it goes slow and struggles), I was wondering if there could have been something wrong with my MacBook Pro and wanted to get to the bottom of it before the warranty ran out

thank you for your reply
