Best way to hold an iPad with just one hand?

I tried an iPad Mini this weekend. For several reasons I wasn't sold. But the main drawback for me was the fact that there's just no good (comfortable) way to hold the device with one hand and operate it with the other hand. The "Mini" form factor notwithstanding, I found the screen to be too small to view text on and too large to hold comfortably!

There seem to be no threads here about how to hold an iPad in one hand and work with the other. Anyone recommend good products I might try (not for a Mini but for e.g. an iPad Air)?
