My wife and I both currently have an Apple Music subscription. If I switch to family plan and invite her will she need to cancel her personal subscription or will it automatically update? Doing this would also leave her current library of music intact correct?

"If someone in the family group already has an individual or student subscription to Apple Music, renewal of that subscription is automatically canceled when they join the family group."
Do not manually cancel the subscription first or you may lose your libraries.

It’ll do it automatically. Library will remain as before.
