iPad Pro M1 12.9" won't charge.

This nearly new iPad Pro plugs in and gets the green-light lightning bolt, but refuses to charge going on several days now. It appears to be getting power because the battery % doesn't seem to drop while it is plugged in. This will be the _second_ return for this device after it was replaced with a new unit earlier in the year for a faulty top button. Please, do not hesitate to purchase AppleCare when you buy your high-end Apple products.

These support pages should help with troubleshooting battery and charging issues:

Charge and monitor the iPad battery - Apple Support

If your iPad won't charge – Apple Support

Troubleshooting generally requires substitution of the Power Adapter and cable for another known-good item. Be aware that most models of iPad require a Power Adapter rated at 12W or greater to reliably charge. 5W Power Adapters intended for older models of iPhone are inadequate to charge an iPad; consistent with your observation, if the iPad charges at all, charging will be very slow. Your iPad was supplied with a 20W USB-C Power Adapter.

Recent anecdotal reports suggest that connecting a 30W USB-C Power Adapter can “kick start” an iPad that is failing to charge.

If you continue to experience difficulties when using an appropriate Power Adapter of 12W or greater, you might be best advised to seek assistance directly from from Apple Support - and request a remote diagnostic test. You can contact the Support Team using the Get Support link at top-right of this page. Alternatively, you can initiate and manage your support cases using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed on your iPad, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:

You might also visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) - where the technicians will be able to test and assess your iPad, Power Adapter and cable(s):

This response is super helpful, LP. Honestly, I have no idea where my original iPad Pro power adapter ran off to. ;-) However, I am festooned with chargers (and cables mostly more robust than Apple's). I have been swapping cables and bricks (nothing less than 25W) at my various charging stations around the home and office.

After many unsuccessful attempts at a hard-reboot using the Apple technique at If your iPad won't charge – Apple Support I was finally able to get a power reset and proper charging now seems to have resumed. Yay! For some reason the "button-dance" for this M1 iPad only results in calling up Siri 99% of the time rather than doing the expected reboot. The dance is this: tap-release volume-up; tap-release volume-down; press-and-hold top button until the Apple Logo appears signaling a hard-reboot (10 seconds at least). Apparently the dance must be performed at the the proper speed so keep trying if all you're getting is the Siri prompt.

Power Adapters are not created equally. Recent high-end models of iPad support the USB PD (Power Delivery) charging standard. Other proprietary charging standards are not supported. If not using a USB PD Power Adapter, the maximum charging rate is limited to 12W (i.e., 2.4A @5V).

As for forced-restart, this support page outlines the procedure - that differs between models:
