Restore studio display

I see the alert to restore my Studio display (connected to Studio Mac), but nothing is happening. I tried the hint of disconnecting the thunderbolt cable from both devices and reconnecting, still nothing. No other messages appear on the Studio Display. How do I get the display to work with the Studio Mac again?

I had this issue but the unplug/wait/re-plug solution didn't help. It seemed to try to update itself again but then kicked back to the restore screen. Is there any way to reset the display to factory settings?

I kept getting the endless loop of the monitor trying to update itself, and reverting to the warning message. It did this even though a cycle of unplugging and replugging the power cable.

It solved itself immediately when I disconnected all cables from the monitor except the one to the machine.

Apple should add "disconnect all other devices from the monitor before updating" to the instructions. If it was already in there, I never saw it.

Yes! This was it for me. I had the same issue when attempting to upgrade a Studio Display from 15.4 to 15.5 using my Mac Studio in August 2022. With Apple phone help I tried connecting the monitor to my MacBook Pro, and it worked fine and even showed that the update had been applied. She made me an Apple Store appointment, but then I read on another support community thread that it could be due to devices plugged into the Studio Display port - in my case a card reader and external drive. I ejected those, unplugged the Studio Display power cord and Thunderbolt cable, plugged the Studio Display back up, and it instantly worked. Added the card reader and external drive then with no issues. So, yes, Apple needs to give more prominent instructions: Remove any devices plugged into the Studio Display ports before updating it.

My monitor gave the restore message out of nowhere when powering up after 2 weeks without power when we were on holiday. Tried unplugging every device, waiting 2 minutes, plugging in the power and thunderbolt cable back into my mac studio. Restore screen > update screen with three dots and text > single three dots > black screen > restore screen. Tried everything on the restore page. It cant seem to finish updating. Weird thing is: I am 99,9% sure I already installed 15.5 in early august, since it fixed the audio issues I was having during video-calls. Apple support doesn't know what the problem could be. They told me to go to a store, which I will do when I have time. Anyone have any more tips? Maybe a way to force an update?

Since I don't have an update message/request on my mac, my guess is it cant finish something that isn't available in the first place. Screen does get recognised when I check the thunderbolt connections: it clearly sees a Studio Display. My mac studio is currently running 12.6. It was running 12.5 when this happened.
