My MacBook display suddenly has a darker area on the screen that is shaped like a rectangle. But when switching to a different user this darker area no longer exists. Has anyone experienced a similar problem? It is odd that switching users fixes the issue. MacBook is updated as well.

We see that you have a darker section of the screen but it only shows up in one user. We would suggest starting with
adjusting the brightness on your display to see if that has any affect on the issue:
