how can i handle this? i m going nuts with emails that just won t disappear but really should be deleted
rebuild mailbox doesn t work - literally nothing happens when i try to do that

What email account have you configured? Is it iCloud, Google, Outlook, or something else? You can delete the account from your MacBook Air and add it back, or you can use the web app (such as http://icloud.com, http://mail.google.com, ... etc) to see if the emails are gone.
