How to alphabetize or sort people in Mac Photos app?

So apparently there is no way to automatically alphabetize or sort People in the People tab of Mac's Photos app. Which is lame, Apple. You hear me... Lame!

What I have found that helps is that you can manually drag-and-drop organize the people into alphabetical order.

Also you can collect all the "A"s by "command-Clicking" each "A" person then dragging a bunch of them to the front "A" position. And so forth.

Actually, I have a bunch of people so what I did was collect all the A, B, C, D people and drag them to the beginning and then reorganized them from there.

Hope this helps.

Collecting all the "A"s, "B"s together is a great idea. That saves a lot of work when the People album has hundreds of entries.

What I did is to create my own People album as a folder of smart albums. This way I can group related people with subfolders, a subfolder for each team or family, etc. And I can use the built-in sorting for albums -See: How to create a custom People album that can be sorted - Apple Community

Hi sca_ba,

Welcome to the Apple Community,

Thank you for sharing your method. It may help others.

As well, Apple Support have a useful "Photos User Guide" for Mac online (ie: for Mac OS 10.14 to Mac OS 12):

Photos User Guide for Mac – Apple Support

(NB: Click on "Table of Contents" at the top of the "Welcome" page. that opens from the link above)

Choose your Mac OS version at the top of articles for accurate info. )

Eg: While the guide does not specify a way to order People photos into alphabetical (or family-tree, etc.) order,

there is info. available for working with photos of people:

Find and identify photos of people using Photos on Mac – Apple Support

As we are all Apple users, like yourself, in this community Apple will not see your comments.
