Instagram videos brightness increasing

Brightness increases for some instagram reels automatically for iPhone 13 (ios 15.4.1). It’s like how brightness increases while we turn into cinematic mode and also watching videos in gallery. My auto brightness is turned off. It’s same even it’s turned on.

Well HDR works like that. It’s not the brightness getting inc technically increased dynamic range needs it or in basic words HDR mean “Brighter” whites deep blacks with vibrant colours it’s not just increasing brightness but if you still don’t need it to happen use low power mode while scrolling reels or just turn on “Reduce white point” setting and make 1% tint filter and leave it on permanently with both of the things HDR videos will show up in SDR.

Hello

That’s normal and doesn’t need and/or get a update.

Instagram has added HDR support for reels , so some people upload videos on HDR.

That’s why when you watch videos on phone gallery it brightens to max too.

HDR is not the normal SDR, has a wider color range and I’m assuming needs brightness at full so you can really see the full colors of HDR.

I actually read that this is not particularly a bug or an issue. The brightness of a content increases when it’s HDR because it needs to compensate how dark the image/video is. It‘s not bound to any platform (I have seen it on reddit as well) and it does not depend on your brightness settings. It‘s even visible when you have your screen on the brightest setting because your screen can actually get brighter than that.

It’s because of HDR quality. If you want to check, find a video on YouTube that does this, tap the gear icon and next to “Quality” you’ll find the resolution and the “(HDR)” next to it. It’s the same when you watch videos made in cinematic mode, which has HDR turned on automatically.

Unfortunately, I was unable to find a toggle to disable the automatic peak of brightness when viewing HDR videos, hopefully it will be added with a future software update.

Ah yes, this is what I was getting at, the way the brightness works for HDR content is this ;

When you are viewing normal content it will show a standard brightness, but when viewing HDR content it will go to peak brightness (nits).

I agree tho, I would highly recommend submitting feedback under the iOS section here apple.com/feedback. This is what the iOS engineers use to source tending issues.

Thanks for the update, John,

If the issue is exclusive to specific features of the Instagram app, we would next suggest using the guidance in If an app on your iPhone or iPad stops responding, closes unexpectedly, or won’t open - Apple Support to troubleshoot the app itself. While the title of the article doesn't match your issue exactly, the steps included still address a variety of unexpected behaviors an app might exhibit.

If the issue remains unresolved after that, please reach out to Instagram for further assistance: How to contact an app developer - Apple Support .
